THE SECRET OF AGING
I have listened to worldly people talk about age and growing old in all the same ways, but none of it made any sense to me. They all seem to end up in the same place as the next.
So I sat with God and asked Him,
“How do You suggest we grow old?”
The words flowed like a river:
“Those who are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.”Psalm 92:13
The house of the LORD is far more than a physical building. Jesus spoke of His body as the temple (John 2:19–21), and Scripture tells us, “You are the temple of God and…the Spirit of God dwells in you” (1 Corinthians 3:16).
God’s dwelling place is His people.
And then came His answer to aging:
“They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing. ”Psalm 92:14
There it was.
God’s picture of old age was not one of fading away, but of continuing to bear fruit.
Fruitful. Fresh. Flourishing.
What a completely different picture of aging.
The world prepares us for decline. God tells us to remain planted in Him and expect fruit.
The secret of aging is not learning how to grow old at all.
It is learning how to remain planted in Him.
Renew your mind to grow old according to the ways of our Lord, rather than according to the expectations of the world.
For those who wait on the LORD “shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”Isaiah 40:31
Perhaps we have spent too much time learning how to grow old from the world, when God has been telling us all along how to remain fruitful, fresh and flourishing.
I SAY, NO WAY TO THE WORLDS WAY! — I'm not getting caught in that net.
