Made to Belong

At the wedding in Cana, Jesus said to His mother,

"Woman, why do you involve Me? My hour has not yet come." (John 2:4)

Yet Mary quietly turned to the servants and said,

"Do whatever He tells you."

To me, Mary's response reveals a quiet confidence in the Father's purpose, even though Jesus had said, 'My hour has not yet come.'

For years we often choose relationships with hard edges. We grind our way through life, marriages and friendships, trying to change one another or fit each other into our own expectations.

Then one day something begins to change.

We discover that relationship is not about making another person become like us. It is about accepting one another with all our differences and allowing those differences to exist together in love.

Jesus stood out, not because He sought the limelight, but because He was different.

Many rejected that difference. Others tried to shape Him into who they thought He should be. Even His own brothers did not believe in Him during His ministry (John 7:5), and at one point His family came to take charge of Him because they thought He was "out of His mind" (Mark 3:20–21).

Yet He never bent to become what others demanded. He remained true to the One who sent Him, and wherever He went, His life made a difference.

Everything changed after His resurrection. Those who had once misunderstood Him came to recognise who He truly was.

At Cana, it seems to me that Jesus was saying, "It is not yet My time." Yet through the Father's purpose, that moment became the beginning of His public signs.

Sometimes what appears to be hidden is already being brought into the light by God.

We do not need to force our time to come.

We simply remain faithful to who God has made us to be, trusting Him to reveal His work in His perfect time.

And if someone tells you that you're not the right fit for their group, remember this: you are a perfect fit with God.

You were never created to fit every person or every place.

You were created to walk with Him.
