Death Trap
Many people prepare financially for retirement, but few prepare spiritually for the final years of life.
The modern world normalizes decline, but the Bible teaches that God can sustain a person even into their later years.
Many or most people meander through life without a thought toward the exit strategy called death. Many follow the same path — retirement villages, nursing homes, then the final procession toward a funeral. The cycle completes itself as though it were unavoidable.
But I turned my back on that process when I met Christ. He said I could follow Him, and that path would lead to being sustained in Him.
Moses was sustained . At Eighty he stood before Pharaoh. At one hundred and twenty, Scripture says his eyes were not dim and his strength had not abated.
Caleb was sustained. At eighty-five, he still carried the spirit of a warrior and asked for the mountain.
Abraham was sustained. When the natural body said life was over, God brought forth promise.
Sarah was sustained. She conceived beyond the years the world calls fruitful.
Anna was sustained. An elderly woman who remained in the temple, waiting, watching, discerning until her eyes saw Christ.
Simeon was sustained until the promise was fulfilled before him.
John the Apostle was sustained into old age and given revelation while exiled on Patmos.
The world prepares people for decline, but God prepares His people for fruitfulness.
One system slowly escorts humanity toward death. The other teaches a person how to live from the life of God within them.
“Even to your old age and grey hairs I am He who will sustain you.” — Isaiah 46:4
“They will still bear fruit in old age; they will stay fresh and green.” — Psalm 92:14
