CATALYST

A catalyst does not always see the changes they set in motion.

Often, the catalyst bears the resistance while others later enjoy the benefits. The seed falls into the ground, disappears from sight, and only much later does the harvest appear.

Jesus Christ is the greatest catalyst in human history.

His sacrifice brought freedom to more people than any other single act. His life revealed what a human being living in union with God could look like. He showed humility instead of power, service instead of control, forgiveness instead of revenge, and love instead of fear.

Yet most ignored Him.

Others embraced parts of what He taught while leaving other parts behind. His words were admired, quoted, debated, and institutionalised, but few lived His ways into their fullness.

And so, two thousand years later, humanity still stumbles through much of the same darkness.

Yet the light remains.

The example He gave has never disappeared. It continues to call humanity beyond self-interest, beyond the endless knowledge of good and evil, and back to the Tree of Life.

A catalyst stands where the present and the future meet.

They see what is, yet they are also able to glimpse what could be. They stand in the doorway between two seasons, often carrying a vision that others cannot yet see. Their role is not to force the future into existence, but to bear witness to it and help prepare the way.

John the Baptist stood between the old covenant and the new. Jesus stood between the world as it was and the Kingdom He revealed. Both saw beyond the present reality into what the Father was bringing forth.

Every catalyst stands in a similar place. They live with one foot in what is and another reaching toward what is yet to come.

Perhaps the measure of a catalyst is not how much change they see in their own lifetime, but how far the ripples travel after they are gone.

For a catalyst is not called to control the harvest.

Only to release the seed.

It echoes what Paul wrote:

"I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase."
